Ubuntu is a Linux distribution that starts with the breadth of Debian and adds regular releases (every six months), a clear focus on the user and usability (it should "Just Work", TM) and a commitment to security updates with 18 months of support for every release. Ubuntu ships with the latest Gnome release as well as a selection of server and desktop software that makes for a comfortable desktop experience off a single installation CD.

Ubuntu 的开发实力够强呀！全是来自 Debian 和 GNOME 团队的牛人。
计划是跟 GNOME 开发同步，每半年一个新版本。

一个我非常喜欢新特性：
Ubuntu 默认禁止 root 帐户
使用者创建的第一个普通帐户将可以通过 sudo 获得 root 权限。
这基本上跟 Mac OSX 一样。

这个兼容性做得很好，，，我从sarge直接升级的(依赖unstable包)。。。没有什么问题。。。感觉比unstable,experimental稳定性好得多。。

从 sarge 升级到 Ubuntu ？
如何能感觉到稳定性好很多？我比较怀疑。

Ubuntu本来就是基于unstable(我安装打开了unstable源)，只不过作了大量的修改，连系统初始化也有类似redhat的[ok]表示启动成功。。。
以前也用unstable，因为它重装过两次，一次是用experimental,unstable混合源安装gnome2.6，结果系统一团糟，还有一次是因为discover与xfree冲实(安装中有discover和discover1,前者是第二个版本)，一直找不到原因(十几天)。。。可能这个大家都没有遇到，后来在debian上查找这是个bug...
官方安装最大问题，是各软件之间不能同步，进行协调。。。
其它发行版就没有这个问题。。。

这跟稳定性无关。
我刚用 unstable + experimental 升级到 GNOME 2.8，very smooth!
